At Standard Bank, our Learnership Programmes seek to tackle the issue of youth unemployment in South Africa whilst building critical and core skills for the bank. There are some core programmes that role out constantly. Other programmes are rolled out based on business need and demand

The learnership uses a fully integrated approach that combines theory with practical training and leads to a recognised qualification/certification.

Group-wide programmes

Use your skills and knowledge to innovate and solve problems across the organistion.

Data Science Programme

Gone are the days were business decisions are based on a gut feel or past experiences. More and more, businesses are using data to help inform key business decisions, whether designing a new product or even extending credit to a customer. Help the organisation make sense of its data across the group – gather, organise, analyse, synthesize and predict.

  • 18-month programme, run in Johannesburg
  • Minimum requirements: Completed 3-year qualification in Mathematics, Data Analytics, Statistics
Behavioural Economics Programme

The premise of Behavioural Econmics is that “we are fallible, easily confused, not that smart, and often irrational. We are more like Homer Simpson than Superman.”(Dan Ariely). Get to grips with why and how humans behave the way they do. Analyse, understand and predict consumer behaviour like never before.

  • 18-month programme, run in Johannesburg
  • Minimum requirements: Completed Economics/Psychology degree
Design Thinking Programme

“Design thinking is a process for creative problem solving. Design thinking has a human-centered core. It encourages organizations to focus on the people they’re creating for, which leads to better products, services, and internal processes.” (www.ideou.com). Help the Bank seek innovative approach to tackling business challenges always keeping the customer in mind

  • Helping our customers online and over the phone
  • 12-month programme, run in Johannesburg and Port Elizabeth
  • Minimum requirements: Completed 3-year finance related qualification
Credit and Risk Programmes

Credit Management Programme: Help our bankers make smart lending decisions by evaluating the lending risk to the Bank. Work within local and international regulations and guidelines to create value for the client, the Bank and our shareholders

  • 18-month programme, run in Johannesburg
  • Minimum requirements: Completed 3-year finance related qualification

Operational Risk Programme: Understand the full spectrum of risks that a Bank faces from political and social strife to epidemic outbreaks. Find ways to mitigate the risk ensuring business continuity.

Internal Audit Programmes

  • Internal Audit Technician
    The Internal Audit Technician (IAT) is the first level qualification that all internal auditors entering the profession should obtain. The content of focused training modules and structured workplace training provide excellent background to candidates starting out in internal auditing or wanting to improve their internal audit skills.

    • 24-month programme, run in Johannesburg
    • Minimum requirements: Completed 3-year Internal Audit qualification

Group Shared Services Programmes

  • GSS Programme
