The Ghoema award-winning rapper and Arendsvlei actor Jerome Rex has been confirmed as the host at Food For Mzansi’s upcoming AgriCareers roadshow events in the Western and Northern Cape.

This, as last-minute registrations for the career exhibitions trickle in for what promises to be another fun-filled day with hundreds of learners. Learners from Ceres and surrounds are invited to Charlie Hofmeyr High School on Tuesday, 19 April while those in Douglas are welcome at Douglas High School on Thursday, 21 April.

This year, the AgriCareers roadshow will introduce 20 000 learners to the A to Z of study and career opportunities within the agriculture sector. The Food For Mzansi-inspired events are powered by Laeveld Agrochem and presented in partnership with Standard Bank, King Price Insurance, and the South African National Seed Organisation (Sansor).

The participating educational partners are AGRICOLLEGES international, Peritum Agri Institute, Stellenbosch University and the University of the Free State.

A life-changing experience

“Now in its third year, the AgriCareers roadshow is the biggest agriculture-specific project of its kind. It’s unlike anything you’ve seen before – from robust discussions to dancing, we are so honoured to put together a programme that learners will never forget. They also walk away with new insights about the agriculture sector,” says Ivor Price, the co-founder and editor-in-chief of Food For Mzansi.

According to Food For Mzansi co-founder and operations director Kobus Louwrens, learners and teachers attending the Ceres and Douglas events are in for a big treat. Not only will they meet a new generation of Mzansi farmers, but also role players who hold a diverse range of professional jobs in agriculture.

“From livestock farmer Zabion de Wee, the new business development manager at John Deere, to plant scientist Dr Adré Minnaar-Ontong, the event is hugely inspiring. This will also be the first time that we’re able to bring the roadshow to the Northern Cape.”

Louwrens adds, “Between the inspiration, laughs and dancing, learners will have a rare opportunity to look educational institutions in the eye and ask them all their questions. From Monika Basson from Stellenbosch University to Laurika du Bois from AGRICOLLEGES international and Odette Shepperson from Peritum, they’ll discover the many different avenues to, eventually, land a good job in agriculture.”

High schools who still wish to register for the Ceres and Douglas career days, must do so before Friday, 15 April at 16:00. Email info@foodformzansi.co.za or WhatsApp the Food For Mzansi hotline on 071 147 0388. Learners also have access to a dedicated careers platform.
